Flokk win two DOGA Design & Architecture awards

Flokk have received two DOGA Awards for Design & Architecture, for the HÅG SoFi mesh, the versatile new task chair from HÅG, and for their partnership with GU in creating a range of products using sustainable Norwegian wool.

At an award ceremony held earlier today at the Design & Architecture Norway (DOGA) headquarters in Oslo, the very best of Norwegian design was recognised for their achievements over the past 12 months. An esteemed jury of industry experts judged entrants for a selection of categories, with the HÅG SoFi mesh & Norwegian wool collaboration picking up award for "Furniture Design' and 'Fashion & Textile Design' categories respectively.

Discussing the merits of the HÅG SoFi mesh, the jury were impressed with the “solid and precise” aesthetics of the chair that “does not appear as industrial and technical as you might fear.” They continued highlighting the “refined and warm expression” of the chair thanks to the material and colour choices. They were also impressed with its unique slideback armrests and intuitive lumbar support system.

Upon receiving the award, Alexander Borgenhov, Designer for PowerDesign & Flokk’s design team, who was an integral to the development of the SoFi mesh said: “The DOGA award is by far the most important and prestigious design award in Norway to receive, so it’s quite an honour. Guys like us who are designers and developers, we really like to be acknowledged by this prize.”

Speaking about the success of the Norwegian wool partnership, Flokk textile designer Pernille Stoltze Jensen, “We produce furniture that we are very proud of, and we never compromise. Quality and environment are some of our ground pillars. The materials in our products are the part that leaves the largest CO2 footprint in our value chain, and the textiles are a part of that. To win this award also gives more attention to the project, and we hope that means that more people want to sit on Norwegian wool.”

The Jury were equally impressed with the project commenting “We let ourselves be excited about the will and the ability to go counter currently and develop a wholly Norwegian wool to furniture in a world of synthetic competitors…The furniture fabrics Sirdal, Setesdal and Suldal are highly technical and the design is very strong, testifying to their own product and own processes.”

Jury Report:

“The HÅG SoFi Mesh is perceived as a solid and precise chair where much of the functionality is hidden inside the chair itself, and does not appear as industrial and technical as you might fear. On the contrary, SoFi Mesh gives a refined and warm expression - almost feminine - not least thanks to good material selection and color palette.

The lumbar support is a small genetic feature - it is both a central design element and a major contributor to the seating comfort, and the same can be said of the armrests, which, with its clever sliding backing function, provide better and more flexibility than traditional armrests.

This is simply a very good office chair, thoughtful to the last detail, and it is our strong conviction that it will be successful in the market, which also confirms the sales figures so far.”

Jury Report:

“We let ourselves be excited about the will and the ability to go counter currently and develop a wholly Norwegian wool to furniture in a world of synthetic competitors. This is successful in the sort and Gudbrandsdals Woolen Fabrication industry, and we praise them for being faithful to the origins and not cutting the wings in terms of quality and design.

The furniture fabrics Sirdal, Setesdal and Suldal are highly technical and the design very strong, a testament to their own product and processes. We strongly believe in the ambition of building a brand within the industry with quality, design and environment at the heart.”
